Church History

Brighter Day of The Greater Highway Church of Christ, Incorporated was founded by Pastor Rosie M. Williams on January 16, 2005. The first service was held in the conference room at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Southwest Philadelphia. The prayer services were held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:00am. Bible Study was held on Wednesdays at 8:00pm. All of the weekly services were held at the home of Minister and Sister Roberts on Renshaw Road in Chester, PA. The first Bible discussion was “Forgive and Forget.” Six weeks later, the Lord blessed us to rent the building at 2228 West 9 th Street in Chester. What a time we had there. The Sunday School opened with the song “A City Called Heaven.” Pastor Williams’s message was, “God Is Our Refuge,” which came from Psalms 46.

On March 24, 2005, Sister Patricia Ann Alexander was preached out of sin by the Word of God delivered by Pastor Williams and was baptized in the name of Jesus at New Life Temple Greater Highway Church Of Christ by Overseer Robert G. Johnson Sr. She became the first new member of Brighter Day.

On August 14, 2005, we moved a few doors down to 2216 West 9th Street. The Lord continued to bless us as the saints of Brighter Day purchased their very own church in November 2005. The renovations and upgrades continued throughout the next three seasons. On October 1, 2006, a motorcade of saints marched from West 9 th Street to 317 Kerlin Street. We entered the new sanctuary singing “Look Where He Brought Us From.” Pastor Williams’s message, “Give Us This Day,” came from Matthew 6: 8-13. On this day, we praised God like never before especially when Brother Lewis Dudley who had fallen thirty feet to the ground walked into the sanctuary. The Lord spared his life and blessed him with a miraculous recovery. On October 29, 2006, we hosted the last Northern District Fellowship Service for the year. Pastor Williams’s message was, “It’s Harvest Time,” which came from Joel 2: 21-27. We may go through our trials and tribulations, but we must always remember……..
