Elder Benjamin C. Leach, the son of the late William B. Leach and Ida Bell Leach-McArthur was born on November 5, 1955. He is the fourth youngest of eleven children and was educated in the Robeson County and Baltimore Metropolitan School Systems. He was also enlisted in the U.S. Army. Elder Leach is no stranger to hard work. He has held many positions in various capacities.
Benjamin knew something good was going to happen for him, while residing in Baltimore, MD. After graduating from high school, his past caught up with him. His mother was a member of the Highway Church of Christ when he was born and he remembered that he was a church baby. Bishop and Mother Davis started a church in Rowland, North Carolina. Initially the services were held under a tent. This is how he acquired the name, “The Tent Baby." Mother Iolar B. Davis affectionately bestowed this name on him. Fifty years later, Mother Davis along with others refer to him as "The Tent Baby."
The Greater Highway Church of Christ was hosting their Convention in Baltimore, MD. The church of Rowland was driving a gold and white bus that year. One of the beloved, Sisters, Betty Joe McCallum asked Elder Leach, (who at that time was known as Ben) to come back to the Carolinas with them on the bus. She had no way of knowing that God was dealing with him by bringing him back to his roots. The bus ride back to North Carolina didn't cost him a dime. Thank you Rowland!
After committing his life to Christ good things began to happen for him. He knew that he should have made this step a long time ago . Many people helped him make the right decisions and the gratitude he feels toward them resides deep in his heart. While worshiping at the Highway Church of Christ in Rowland, North Carolina he met a young lady by the name of Hazel L. Smith. She loved him at first sight and he loved her. A man that findeth a wife, findeth a good thing.
Although he had many disappointments, heartaches and pains while striving to get ahead. The Lord did not forget his labor of love and called him into the ministry under the watchful eye of Bishop R.F. Davis, who taught him about Christ.
The honorable Bishop R.F. Davis appointed Elder Benjamin Leach Pastor of the Greater Highway Church of Christ in Dillon, South Carolina three years ago. Elder Leach is grateful for the teaching Bishop has given him. He considers himself his prodigy and son in the Gospel.
The gratitude that he feels for his membership and the love and care that they show for their Pastor can not be described. God has given Elder Leach the good part by allowing him to watch over this flock and he wants them to know that they are a part of the good things that have happened to him.
