On a cold and gloomy Christmas Eve, 55 years ago the late Bishop James T. Morris and I walk into what is now known as the Headquarters of The Greater Highway Church of Christ, Inc in Marion, SC. We were seeking to save souls and reform men to the pureness and the hope of eternal life through the Truth of the Gospel.
I am so grateful that God has blessed us, strengthened me and blessed the works of my hands. We worked untiringly, and continue to work with the same momentum, because eternal life depends upon the endurance of an individual.
Many souls have been regenerated and have come to God through the Truth of this Gospel. Some were like the sower of seeds that fell by the wayside and were devoured. Some fell on stony ground and because of the pressure of the heat they withered away. Some fell among thorns and thistles, they were choked. The good ground where we stand today is bringing forth fruit, some 30, some 60, some 100 fold. How great the Master is with his supply of grace that he can establish a perfect record of service!
The scripture said, “The time would come when they would not endure sound doctrine”. I can agree when he said, “Stand ye in the ways and see and ask for the old path”. I understand the response when he said, “They would not walk therein”. And because of this, I am so grateful that God has given me the mind and the grace of Leadership to stand strong and honest; to tell the truth and be the thing. Today the church of Marion stands 55 years later, because my arm was made strong and my strength made solid by the mighty God of Jacob.
